Frequently asked questions

What is a wall mount cabinet?

A wall mount cabinet is an enclosed rack enclosure that mounts directly to a wall, providing a secure and organized space for standard 19-inch rack-mountable networking, AV, and IT equipment. Unlike floor-standing racks, wall mount cabinets are ideal for smaller installations where floor space is limited, such as wiring closets, server rooms, and office network setups.

What does U or rack unit mean?

A rack unit (U or RU) is the standard unit of measurement for rack-mountable equipment height. One U equals 1.75 inches (44.45 mm). Equipment is rated in U heights, such as 1U or 2U, and cabinets are sized by how many U of equipment they can hold.

How do I choose the right wall mount cabinet size?

Add up the U height of all equipment you plan to install, then add 20 to 30 percent for cable management panels, blanks, and future expansion. A single-room wiring closet or small office setup typically fits in a 6U to 9U cabinet, while a growing network with multiple switches, patch panels, and a UPS often needs 12U to 18U or more. When in doubt, size up.

What equipment can I install in a wall mount cabinet?

Common equipment includes network switches, patch panels, routers, firewalls, fiber patch panels, NVRs (network video recorders), small UPS units, and other standard 19-inch rack-mountable devices.

Are these cabinets compatible with standard 19-inch rack equipment?

Yes. All Networx® wall mount cabinets are built to the standard 19-inch rack profile and include front and rear cage nut rails, making them compatible with virtually all standard rack-mountable networking and AV equipment.

What's the difference between a fixed and a swing-out wall mount cabinet?

Fixed-frame cabinets, such as the 101, 102, 201, and 202 Series, mount flush to the wall and are accessed from the front only. Swing-out cabinets, such as the 501 Series, hinge away from the wall so the entire frame can pivot outward, giving full access to the rear of installed equipment for cabling and maintenance.

What's the difference between the acrylic, mesh, and glass door styles?

Clear acrylic doors provide a full view of installed equipment while keeping dust out. Steel hexagonal mesh doors improve airflow for equipment that runs hotter, at the cost of a less enclosed look. Tempered glass doors, used on select models, offer a more rigid, scratch-resistant viewing panel. All door styles are lockable.

Are the side panels removable, and do they provide ventilation?

Yes. All Networx® wall mount cabinets include removable, vented side panels that allow for improved airflow and easy access to the interior of the cabinet. Side panels are lockable for security.

Do all wall mount cabinets in this line have the same load capacity?

Most models in this line are rated to hold up to 130 lbs of installed equipment. The 6U 501 Series Swing Out cabinet is the exception, rated for 65 lbs. Check the specifications on each individual product page for the exact rating of the model you're considering.
