Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between DVI-I, DVI-A, and DVI-D connectors?
DVI-I (Integrated) carries both digital and analog signals and has extra pins for the analog signal. DVI-A carries analog signal only, comparable to a VGA/SVGA connection. DVI-D carries digital signal only. The cable's connector type has to match what the source and display support.

What's the difference between DVI Single Link and Dual Link?
Single Link DVI uses one TMDS transmitter pair for a maximum bandwidth of 165 MHz. Dual Link DVI uses two TMDS pairs for roughly double the bandwidth (330 MHz), supporting higher resolutions. Use Dual Link only when both your source and display support it.

Are DVI cables digital or analog?
It depends on the connector type. DVI-D cables are digital only, DVI-A cables are analog only, and DVI-I supports both, though a given cable is wired for just one signal type based on its connector pins.

Are these DVI cables HDCP compliant?
Yes, Vivid AV's DVI cables are fully HDCP compliant where applicable, supporting protected digital content between HDCP-compliant devices.

Can a DVI cable connect to an HDMI or DisplayPort device?
Only with the right bridge cable. DVI-D signal is electrically compatible with HDMI video (see our HDMI-to-DVI-D cable), and a DisplayPort source can output a DVI-compatible signal over our DisplayPort-to-DVI cable, but a plain DVI cable alone won't bridge those different connector types.

Do these DVI cables come with a warranty?
Yes, every DVI cable in this lineup carries Vivid AV's Lifetime Warranty.

What wire gauge and connector plating do these DVI cables use?
28 AWG conductors throughout, with gold-plated connectors on the DVI-D and DisplayPort-to-DVI lines, or nickel-plated connectors on the DVI-A to SVGA line.
