Study: Fiber-optic receives high customer satisfaction ratingsCreated: 5/2/2011 8:12:27 AMA distinct advantage of fiber-optic cables is that their direct link to a home or business may significantly improve the quality of telecommunications.
This seems to be the case for lots of cable customers. A recent study, conducted by Consumer Reports, found that of 70,000 people surveyed, those who were most satisfied with their telecommunication services had a service provider that managed fiber-optic networks.
The companies making the highest grade were Verizon Fios and AT &T U-Verse. Survey respondents were asked to rate their selected provider based on several criteria, including internet speed, call quality, and service reliability, states the media outlet.
Furthermore, experts say that the reason for fiber-optic's favorable performance record in telecommunications may be attributed to its larger bandwidth. This could allow service providers to take on more customers without overloading the processing requirements of their systems.
Fiber optic installation is on the rise. According to the Boston Globe, a Nashua, New Hampshire, service provider was recently awarded a $34 million dollar contract to install a network in in the state's southeast corner.
