Fiber-optic expansion set for the MidwestCreated: 8/31/2010 9:30:33 PMTelecommunications company US Signal announced on Monday it will expand its long-haul fiber-optic cable network in Southern and Central Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri and Southern Indiana.
This expansion is critical to the US Signals philosophy of connecting key markets with advanced data transport services, said Kirk Dombeck, director of business development for US Signal. The recently added long-haul routes enable US Signal to deliver Virtual Ethernet Service, which provides access to a fully meshed, scalable and reliable network to support any data bandwidth solution.
The new expansion plans will include nearly 1,000 miles of fiber-optic connections to the companys network, which will increase its total to more than 7,000 miles of long-haul fiber and more than 900 miles of fiber-optic metro rings. US Signals coverage expands across the Midwest, providing internet services to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri.
Fiber-optic cables have become the standard for high-speed connections, as the lines allow for rapid data transmission over long distances. The high bandwidth capacity allows for video and voice feeds to transfer quickly with minimal disruption.
