Vaultas announced recently that it will help the residents of the Red River region, which is situated in Minnesota and North Dakota, stay online as the area prepares for a flood. The impending disaster could be costly for the region, as it's broadband serves as a critical lifeline for local enterprises.

"Statistics show that 93 percent of businesses that suffer 10 days or more of system down time will likely face bankruptcy within one year," John Unger, president of Vaultas, said.

The company has a private network of fiber-optic cables that it is willing to make available to businesses in need. the network is supported by several data centers, so the bandwidth and processing demands can be adjusted according to the levels of usage. Because the Red River is expected to flood in dramatic fashion, this initiative by the company may prove to be a vital part of the region's effort to stay online and conduct business as usual.

Connectivity has been a priority among the many towns and business of the region, which according to Red River Telephone, has recently received a a sizable grant through the national Broadband Stimulus to further its internet initiatives.
