HDBaseT to challenge HDMI as A/V standardCreated: 7/1/2010 7:02:37 PMHDMI cable users will soon have a new audiovisual cable option, as many companies have announced the formation of the HDBaseT standard.
The new standard is a variation of the CAT 5e and CAT 6 cables, allowing users to connect A/V hardware together without messy wires cluttering home entertainment systems.
Although GadgetSteria wrote a new A/V cable standard has the potential to confuse consumers and over-saturate the market, the new standard is a logical solution that is based on commonly used cables. By using Ethernet wires, the HDBaseT should help reduce A/V cable prices, making the
computer cable market more competitive, according to the report.
HDBaseT will have cable lengths up to 328 feet, be able to pass HD and 3D video signals and may become the ideal solution for internet-connected TV services, Daily Tech reports.
The HDBaseT is the next generation cable following HDMI and S-Video standard connectors. Although the HDBaseT offers users new benefits, the widely accepted HDMI format will still be a useful standard for many people who arent ready to invest in new connection cables.
