HDMI adoption continues to climbCreated: 5/27/2010 8:26:19 PMA recent In-Stat report says that high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) continues to make strong gains across many market segments.
The report says that HDMI has now been almost universally adopted in new televisions, and continues to make strides with computers. In-Stat says that it has more than doubled its penetration into the PC market.
Looking forward, In-Stat says the number of HDMI-enabled products will increase annually by more than 20 percent through 2013, as the interface moves into smaller devices. Vendors are also targeting the mobile phone segment with the introduction of smaller connectors like HDMI mini.
"The next big HDMI growth area is in portable CE devices, including digital camcorders, digital still cameras, and portable media players," said Brain O'Rourke, an In-Stat analyst.
The growth of HDMI has also resulted in a decline in the use of digital visual interface usage, which In-Stat says will decrease by 8.1 percent a year through 2013.
Analysts say DVI technology has been on a steady decline since the release of the HDMI 1.2 standard in 2005. CNET says that many new monitors have stopped including ports for the older
computer cables, but all of them include HDMI.
