Arrests made in Georgia copper wire theft Created: 11/12/2010 5:27:39 PMPolice in Albany, Georgia have made progress in dismantling a copper wire theft ring in the city. Police thanked those who called in tips, which helped lead to the arrests, mysouthwestga.com reports.
Rasheen Wheeler was arrested recently and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, false statement, dumping egregious litter and theft by taking. The latter of the charges is a felony. The “dumping egregious litter” charge refers to the burning of wiring to access the copper.
His cousin, Angel Wheeler, was also arrested for misdemeanor obstruction in relation to the copper wire theft. Angel was released on bond.
Officer have also issued felony warrants for for Monica Swan and Richard Byrd Jr., both for dumping egregious litter in connection with the copper wire theft.
“We’re asking when you do call in and state that the copper wiring belongs to you or allegedly belongs to you, we need you to be more specific as to the type of wiring that was either taken or stolen,” said Albany Police Department detective Schemika Foster.
Copper wire theft is taken seriously by law enforcement throughout the U.S. Recently, three Arizona men were arrested for allegedly stealing copper wire out of a vacant home.
