When light signals are sent through fiber-optic cables, the photons within the signal are all the same color. Researchers as the University of Oregon have developed a method to change the color of photons during transmission.
New SCD21 standard cable developed

A new cable has been developed that can send signals at a lower differential than SCD21 standards. The wire is capable of transferring data at -40dB, and consistently performs at -25dB. Those statistics represent performance on a 20 GHz bandwidth.
