IOGEAR's new GCS942UW6 DVI-D Hybrid KVM addresses the problem of connecting a USB mouse and PS/2 keyboard to a KVM. No longer do you need to give up your favorite keyboard or mouse to accommodate a PS/2 or USB only KVM - this is the best of both worlds. In addition to the hybrid connections you can share your desktop speakers and microphone between both computers, plus have the ability to switch them independently from KVM functions. You can make an internet call from one computer while working on a spreadsheet on another computer without skipping a beat. The GCS942UW6 has a selectable rate Auto scan mode to allow hands-off monitoring of your computers which is perfect for the times when you have processes running on both computers, and want to monitor their progress, i.e. a virus scan on one and a disk defragmenting. Two methods: hot keys, or the One Touch Switch, enable you to switch computers to match the KVM to your style of work rather than the other way round. The GCS942UW6 can be placed on the floor behind your desk to help minimize desktop clutter while staggered cables lengths aid in taming the cable tangle behind your computers. The one touch switch is small enough to be placed in a handy, out-of-the-way place. The GCS942UW6 has a video resolution to 1920 x 1200@60Hz; DDC2B@ 60 Hz, and the One Touch Switch has LEDs to identify the active port. In information technology, Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial bus standard to connect devices to a host computer. USB was designed to allow many peripherals to be connected using a single standardized interface socket and to improve plug and play capabilities by allowing hot swapping; that is, by allowing devices to be connected and disconnected without rebooting the computer or turning off the device. Other convenient features include providing power to low-consumption devices, eliminating the need for an external power supply; and allowing many devices to be used without requiring manufacturer-specific device drivers to be installed. DVI-D, or Digital Video Interface Technology Digital came about in 1999 as a result of the formation of the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) a year prior. Their original mission was to create a standard digital video interface for communication between a Personal Computer and a VGA monitor. DVI-D will support only Digital video signals.
